Basic LASSI Pilot Case Study

by Tim Shelford

This case study summarizes the GLASE research team findings from a field demonstration of the “Basic” Light and Shade System Implementation (LASSI) lighting control algorithm at a Suffolk County, New York greenhouse for a 12-month period in 2024 and 2025.

Basic LASSI Case Study

The main objective of the LASSI control system is to provide a consistent Daily Light integral year round, and at the lowest cost. It typically meets this goal through a combination of a properly sized lighting system (typically an intensity of at least 150 to 180 umol/m2/s) at the crop level, and a shade control system to limit the light during the brighter parts of the year.

Learn how this operation benefits from advanced lighting controls to understand light levels received by crops to achieve target DLI.
