State of the CEA Industry Update: Market Growth

Ten years ago, Cornell University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute proposed the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) invest $5 million in the creation of the Greenhouse Lighting and Systems Engineering (GLASE) consortium for greenhouse technology research, education, and workforce development.

The founding GLASE researchers forecasted CEA market growth in New York State, industry-wide horticultural lighting and controls technology development, and the adoption and impact of new technologies across the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) industry.

This year, GLASE researchers revisited these expectations and gathered feedback from the Industry Advisory Board to create a State of the CEA Industry Update for not only New York but the entire United States.

GLASE is sharing these insights in a three-part series focusing on the evolution of the CEA market. In this first episode, learn how the industry has grown in size and value by crop category in the past ten years.

Featuring:
Dr. Neil Mattson, GLASE Principal Investigator, Associate Professor, Cornell University
Gretchen Schimelpfenig, PE, GLASE Executive Director

Our next video in this series will focus on technology development. If you have questions or are interested in learning more about GLASE, our Industry Advisory Board, or how to join our membership, please contact our team at glase@cornell.edu.
