DESCRIPTION:Controlled Environment Agriculture is an energy intensive industry that can achieve many societal goals\, though it requires significant energy resources for lighting\, heating\, humidifying/dehumidifying and cooling. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) has long been heavily leveraged by Europeans to integrate CEA with the energy grid in a much more sustainable and environmentally sensitive way. With increasing energy costs and emissions reduction mandates and resilience needs growing\, CEA and CHP combine to optimize food production with energy production\, resulting in increased efficiency\, lower emissions\, and improved facilities\, as well as grid resilience. This presentation will provide an overview of how CHP integrates with CEA and will discuss the CHP project development process\, including cost\, funding sources\, and permitting.

Our mission is to bring together researchers\, scientists\, industry\, academia\, extension\, government\, and students to cultivate ideas and share new techniques relating to horticulture and plant sciences. \nThe Conference focuses on the distribution of science through technical sessions\, oral and E-poster presentations\, keynote speakers\, and workshops. \nEnjoy networking and group activities where you can catch up with peers\, competitions\, social events and meet and greets. There will be a spotlight on students and industry – from career path mentoring to competitions and group activities to create relationships that can last throughout your career. With one exception\, ALL sessions and events will take place in-person in Chicago. All sessions will be recorded and made available to registered post-conference to paid registrants. No virtual live streaming or virtual attendance will be available.
